Theatrical productions need funding through their 3 stages of life:

• Creating the piece - writing, devising, rehearsing, dramaturgy

• Building a production run - venue hire, production team, actors, design, logistics

• Maximise audience attendance - promotion, advertising, publicity

Reduced government funding:

• Culture budget down 6% since 2010, Germany and France increased spending by up to 70%.

• Local government funding of culture services down 39% in Scotland, 40% in Wales and 48% in England.

• DCMS’s support of cultural organisations down 18% to only 0.17% of total public spending/pers.. 

• Arts council core funding down 18% in England, 22% in Scotland, 25% in Wales & 66% in Northern Ireland
